Make Trax supports NEET Young people or “at risk of becoming NEET” aged 15-29 in Brighton, Crawley and we have recently extended into Horsham and Mid Sussex. Our project is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and European Social Fund (Building Better Opportunities) Our project is to support young people back into or stay in education or move into employment.

So many young people are under pressure to do something and they don’t know what they want to do, or if they do know, they don’t know how to get there.

We work with them on a 1:1 basis having honest and open conversations about what they would like to do, where their natural strength lie and what skill sets they might want to improve. We encourage and hold them accountable.

The key is… that the young person has to want to move forward. We will then help to create an individual plan. Our support for young people is around confidence building, getting work ready, setting goals, developing a CV, interview skills, job applications, managing wellbeing and staying motivated (especially over these times)

The main requirements are:

• 16-29 years
• Unemployed or economically inactive
• If they’re ‘at risk of becoming NEET’ then evidence is required, e.g. letter from school/ college
• They need to have a Right to Work in UK
• Not already being supported by a Building Better Opportunities project.

Transport information

We aim to meet young people near their homes for 1:1 sessions. Due to Covid restrictions we have been holding virtual meetings. At the end of the summer we have been meeting in public outdoor spaces, such as parks and we are in the process of finding suitable indoor space to meet young people.

How to apply

They can self refer or parents/careers or organization/institutions can also refer. The main criteria is that the young person must want to move forward, discussions on how is the part of the Make Trax Programme.
